First Visit
First Visit
You can play a large part in preparing your youngster for
his/her first visit. One way to convey good feelings to your child
about dental
visits
is to remind them that going to the dentist is a sign of growing up.
You can explain that the dentist will count and take pictures of his
or her teeth. Please do not tell your child that the “dentist
will not hurt” instead, assure your child that the dentist will
be gentle and friendly. There are many excellent children’s stories
which describe a visit to the dentist.
You are invited to be with your child during initial examination. We simply request that you be a silent observer so that we may use this time to establish a rapport with your child. Please do not be upset if your child cries, children are often afraid of anything new, and crying is the normal reaction to that fear. When you schedule your child’s first visit, we will mail you a health form to complete and return. The first visit consists of a complete dental exam and cleaning which will include evaluating the health of the teeth, gums, and child’s bite. X-rays will be taken as necessary to assure a comprehensive examination. At the conclusion of the visit the doctor will explain what she has found and what treatment she recommends.
